Winter Beauty with Adore Me

December 29, 2015
Even though it's been 70 degrees, which is hardly fall weather, it's been officially winter for a week now and I've 100% taken advantage of the season change in my makeup routine.  I typically rotate between two or three looks each season and I've been wanting to do a post featuring my makeup for a while, so when I came across  Adore Me and their infographic I became inspired to create a post showcasing my winter palette and the products I'm going to be using, so it was perfect timing!

When I saw pairing one it reminded me of the makeup I wore in this outfit post! I loved this makeup look so much, so I decided to recreate it using my favorite winter products!

In the winter, my skin gets super dry, so I've started using eye primer to prevent my eyeshadow from creasing and also to make the application smoother. Lorac's Behind the Scenes Eyeshadow Primer came with my palette, so I used that and loved it!

I always use the same eyeshadow as a base for the main color, and that is Sultry from theBalm's NUDE 'tude palette.  It's a perfect match for my skin tone, and great for blending my eyeshadow.  The main shadow I used for this look is Unattainable from the Lorac Unzipped palette. This eye shadow is so pretty and shimmery, but also not too over the top for everyday!  I then used Uncensored from the Lorac Unzipped palette on my waterline and Serious from theBalm's NUDE 'tude palette on my tightline.

For mascara, I like more natural looking lashes for every day but I also wanted something hydrating for the winter. I got Maybelline Full 'N Soft Mascara which was perfect for this look!

When I go for a statement lip color, I use a lipstick of my mom's which is Interface Cosmetic's Lipstick in Rapture. It's super old and impossible to find, but it's a rich, deep purple. As is, it's a bit unwearable so I like to layer NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss in Nude Peach on top to lighten it up and balance out the plum color.  I always use Maybelline's Baby Lips Dr. Rescue;  it's the only thing that can keep my lips soft in the winter!

I hope you all enjoyed this post, and I would love if you recreated this look or another one in Adore Me's winter makeup set!  Leave a comment below letting me know which winter beauty trend is your favorite! Stay tuned, xo Lauren.

Holiday Wish List 2015

December 1, 2015
Holiday Wish List 2015

I know that the holiday season is about so much more than gifts, but between my birthday and Christmas I always compile a list of things I wouldn't mind receiving. Last year I also posted a holiday wish list, and I think/hope it helped you all get ideas for your list to Santa, or things you could get your friends (also my mom reads this and she really wants to know what I want)!

Since I first laid eyes on this palette I became obsessed with it.  You all know that I love nude/gold shades for my eyeshadow, so this palette is right up my alley!

If you remember from last year, I asked and received these boots in brown. They are so comfortable and have quickly become my favorite boots.  Recently, I've been wearing a lot of black so I'd love to have a pair of black boots!

I love festive pj's, but I realized that I haven't had a pair since I was a kid. These are so classic, and I'd love to wear them around on Christmas day!

I love my monogram necklace, but I'd also like to have another personalized necklace. I've lived in the same house for most of my life, and I'd love to have its coordinates with me at all times.

This one is a bit of a guilty pleasure because I'm not in need of a new pair of sneakers, but I'm in love with these! If you take a look at my blog these shoes match my aesthetic perfectly!

I've been eyeing this wallet for a few years now, and I think it's finally time for an upgrade. Tory Burch is great quality so it will last for a long time, and super easy for everyday use!

This is another thing that I've been lusting over for a while.  I've never had a real perfume, I usually just use Victoria Secret or Bath and Body Works body sprays, but the scent of this perfume is so much more mature!

I love reading books about business and how to succeed. Aliza Licht has years of experience, so I know I will gain a lot from reading this book!

I've never had a robe, and I think it'd be incredibly useful. The VS ones are classic and super cute!

I hope everyone knows that I in no way, shape, or form expect to get all or any of these gifts.  I'm always super grateful for any and everything that I get, this wish list is just to give my parents an idea of what I've been eyeing! Leave me comments letting me know what is on your wish list! Stay tuned, xo Lauren.

Thanksgiving OOTD/Recap

November 27, 2015

I'm writing this as we are winding down on Thanksgiving day, and I wanted to provide not only an outfit of the day but also a recap of how my day went.  I woke up at about 8:45 AM this morning so I could watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which I absolutely love! To be completely honest, I wasn't very impressed with the parade this year. There were no performers that I absolutely loved, but I was happy to see my favorite floats and balloons such as Snoopy and Charlie Brown!

After watching the parade for about an hour and a half, I took my shower and changed into my outfit for the day.  This year we had Thanksgiving at my aunt's house, and we did not have that many people in attendance. It was also quite warm, so I decided on a cute sweater and black jeans. I wanted to be comfortable, but also cute for Snapchats and whoever happened to stop by :)

We ate our Thanksgiving meal at 2 P.M., and it was delicious. I am so thankful to live in a family where we don't have to worry about having enough food and everyone is healthy and safe. Following our meal, some of us girls took a walk around the neighborhood.  The weather was so nice, and it was great to get fresh air. Since then we've all been hanging out together playing Heads Up and watching Ratatouille.  I hope you all had an wonderful Thanksgiving with your families and took a moment to think about what you are thankful for.

Thanksgiving Dance 2015

November 22, 2015
Last night was the Thanksgiving Dance, which is a charity event organized by a committee of girls from the three high schools in my district.  This year I was selected to be on the committee, and I had a great time making posters, selling tickets, and helping to decorate! I don't have tons of pictures to share because the dance isn't very popular in my grade, so I only popped in for a couple hours.

Book Talk: The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

November 12, 2015

If you haven't heard of The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins, then you must have been under rock for the past 10 months, or not following my literature Pinterest board!  Ever since the book was published in January of this year I've been seeing countless reviews and praise for it on the internet, especially since it's being turned into a film!

Maintaining a Clean Living Space

November 5, 2015
image courtesy of PinkPot Creative Convex
As a teenager, I don't know how often I hear my parents say "clean your room" or "you can go if your room is clean".  To be honest, I mostly hear them saying this to my sister, not because I'm perfect and always have a clean room, but because I enjoy keeping my room clean.  For me, having a clean room/living space keeps me sane, when I have stuff all over the floor it's hard for me to focus.  Since I've developed a system to keeping my room clean without sitting down for an hour and cleaning my room, I decided to share my tips with you!

Put Away Your Clothes | It can be easy when you get dressed to throw your clothes on a chair or on your bed, but honestly it takes less than a minute to put them on a hanger or in the laundry hamper.  This will save you a bunch of time later when you don't have to pick up piles of clothes and decide whether or not they should be hung back up or tossed in the hamper.

Make a Schedule | Some things need to be done, like vacuuming or dusting, so if you make a schedule and do them every week on the same day, it will only take 10-20 minutes max. out of your daily routine.

Make Your Bed | Making your bed every morning immediately makes you feel productive, and a made bed can make a room look that much cleaner.  It feels great to peel back the sheets at night and crawl into bed, and it feels even cozier when the bed has been made.

Throw It Out | It's good to know when you're keeping something because it's sentimental, and when it becomes trash. I used to keep every single ticket from every football and basketball game I went to at my school because I wanted to have memories, then I realized that a clip full of tickets isn't memories, it's garbage.  I understand keeping tickets from special games, there is nothing against that, but in 20 years I'm going to be glad I threw out that stack of tickets.

I hope this helped you out, leave me comments letting me know any tips you have! Stay tuned, xo Lauren.

Fall Favorites

October 29, 2015
Hello everyone! So my last post was about Halloween movies, and I planned to do a post showing my past Halloween costumes to you all, but I was realized that Halloween isn't really my thing, and I would much rather do a post about fall!

Favorite fall candle?
About a month ago I showed you all my 3 favorite fall candles, but my number one is definitely Golden Cinnamon!

Favorite lip color?
I still haven't done a beauty review on it yet, but Almay's Liquid Lip Balm in Pink Pout is my all-time favorite lip product ever. No matter what outfit I wear, or what makeup I wear, this lip gloss is perfect!

Favorite drink?
Pumpkin Spice Latte is the obvious answer, but I actually fell in love with the new Salted Caramel Mocha this year! I originally went in to try the Toasted Graham Latte, but they were sold out. I tried the Salted Caramel Latte instead and it was soo good! Of course, the chai tea latte is always a favorite of mine.

Favorite blush?
I don't wear blush that often, but the only one I do wear is the darker blush in the BH cosmetics Malibu palette.  It starts out super subtle, then after about 1o minutes it warms up into a glowy blush!

Favorite clothing item?
Lately, my favorite thing to wear has been my grey Piko top from ShopSosie! This top is super comfortable and easy to throw on with a vest and boots.

Favorite Fall Movie?
As mentioned in my Halloween movie post, my favorite movie to watch during this time of year is It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.  My brother and I think it is hilarious, and we have a great time watching it together.

Favorite Fall TV Show?
A few weeks back I did a post highlighting the shows I watch this season. My favorite to watch has to be The Vampire Diaries because I've been watching it every Thursday in the fall with my sister for years! It almost feels like a tradition to watch The Vampire Diaries in the fall.

Favorite Thanksgiving Food?
Thanksgiving has become my favorite holiday, so it was super easy for me to pick my favorite food. Mac and cheese is the one thing I must have at Thanksgiving! Last year when I found out that no one was bringing it I was devastated, so I went to the store and bought my own dish!

Favorite Halloween Costume?
As I mentioned above, Halloween isn't really my thing.  That being said I have dressed up almost every year, and my favorite costume is when I was a "Skele-Cutie" in 7th grade!

I hope you all enjoyed this tag! Leave your responses in the comments below, or if you have a blog and you participate in the tag I'd love to read your post!  Stay tuned, xo Lauren.

Book Talk: #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso

October 6, 2015

I just posted a few days ago a post about how I barely have time to read, but I made time for this book. Sophia Amoruso's #GIRLBOSS has been on my to-read list for a while now, and when I received an email from my library that it was back in I didn't hesitate before checking it out; here we are a week later and I want to buy it!

Sweater Weather

September 16, 2015

It's been awhile (about 6 weeks) since I did an outfit post, so I thought I would show you what I've been wearing lately. It's nearly fall (only 1 more week) and I've started to notice the weather getting chillier! It's definitely not cold yet, but between the cool mornings and AC at school, I've been wearing this cardigan on a weekly basis.

This outfit is perfect for cooler mornings when I definitely need sleeves and mid-day when just the tank top works because it's gotten to the mid-80's.

I love the combination of the thin sheer fabric, with the thick cardigan. It's super chic and easy to wear!

Cardigan: AEO Feather Light Cardigan     Top: Lush from Nordstrom
Jeans: American Eagle     Booties: Pink & Pepper

Thank you so much for reading this post, I hope you enjoyed it! Stay tuned, xo Lauren.

How to Make Money as A Teen

September 11, 2015

From experience, I know that it can be hard to make money during high school. I'm always busy between blogging, school, extracurriculars and volunteering (and sleep); and even if I had time for a job during the year there aren't always jobs available. Over the last two years, I've found some solutions that work well for me, and may help you as well!

Sell Your Clothes!
I don't mean sell everything in your closet, but everyone has clothes in their closet that don't fit them anymore or just don't get a lot of wear but are still wearable. There are so many websites and apps, where you can sell your clothes and people will actually buy them! I use Poshmark, Vinted, and Tradesy! Tradesy works best with higher end clothing, I'm not selling anything that falls into that category, so I haven't made any money there yet. Poshmark and Vinted have both been major successes for me. I prefer Vinted because it gives you more of the money from the sale, but they are both large communities of people who love to buy clothes! I would also recommend asking your parents if they have anything you could sell for them on eBay, and split the price. My dad said I could sell his old golf clubs on eBay a few summers ago, and I ended up making over $200!

Apps that Give You Money...For Free!!
Just like there are apps where you can sell things, there are easier apps where you can make money for nothing! My favorite is Shopkick, and app where all you have to do is open it when you walk into certain stores to gain points. Shopkick gives "kicks" for walk-ins to stores like Macy's, American Eagle, Target, Best Buy and more! You can also scan specific products for more points, but it is an easy and quick way to earn gift cards and even some high-end products! Another great app is Feature Points! Feature Points works a bit more slowly, but all you have to do is download apps from a specific list to earn points for a gift card or free app in the AppStore! I just downloaded a $3.99 app for free, and it was so worth it!

Save Money!
These obviously aren't ways to have a continuous income, sometimes you won't make a sale for months, and then 3 people will buy things from your closet! If you want to make sure you always have some cash on you, I would save a small percent of everything you make. The small additions after every sale add up, and before you know it your back account with have doubled by the end of the year!

These are just a few ways that I make money for myself! Leave a comment letting me know how you make money and stay tuned for a new post soon! Xoxo, Lauren.

Healthy After School Snacks | #BloggersBTS

September 1, 2015

This week is (unfortunately) the last week of #BloggersBTS, and the theme is food! When I read that the theme was going to be food, I immediately thought of healthy after school snacks, because I know how tempting it can be to go home and overload on food while watching Netflix or doing your homework! A tip I learned, is to pick healthy snacks, and not eat while you are working, because you are sure to over eat and spoil your dinner (I sound like a grandparent, but it's true!).

My first favorite snack is frozen mangos! I love fruit because it's sweet while still being healthy! Frozen mangos are delicious snacks for after school, especially while it's still hot outside!

Another one of my sweet favorites is chocolate covered almonds. The ones that I love are from Trader Joe's and I swear they are addicting! I love these because they are sweet, without being too sweet due to the sea salt and dark chocolate bitterness; plus, just a few of these is all you need!

My third favorite snack is salty, seaweed! Seaweed is so easy to snack on and super healthy! Many people don't love the flavor of seaweed, but I love it!

Another one of my favorites is veggie straws! I'm not sure how healthy they actually are, as I've heard mixed things, but they aren't unhealthy and they taste good!

My last snack isn't a food but a drink, juice! If you follow me on Instagram (@misslaurenalston), you may have seen a photo a posted a couple weeks ago of my green juice! We've had a juicer for a while now, but, for the most part, it goes unused, so I decided to recreate my favorite kale, lemon, apple juice at home! It ended up being delicious and filling! This one is the most nutritious snack because it's all natural, but also the longest to make! It takes about 3o minutes to make and clean up a juice, so I only do it when I don't have tons of homework!

I hope you enjoyed this post; send me pictures on Instagram and twitter (@mslaurenalston) if you decide to make juice, and let me know what your favorite after school snacks are! Stay tuned, xo Lauren.

As you all know I love reading, so whenever I finish a book that I particularly enjoyed, of course, I want to share it with you all. I'm obviously not going to share every book I ever read with you, but if you want to keep up with what I'm reading you can follow me on Goodreads!

Dealing with Rejection

Dealing with Rejection

Hello everyone! Today I'm back with a bit more of a serious topic, how to deal with rejection. Everyone experiences rejection at some point in their life, and sometimes dealing with it without becoming pessimistic or even depressed can be difficult.

Agenda Organization - Kate Spade Agenda | #BloggersBTS

August 10, 2015
I'm back bright and early on this Monday morning to share with you my second installment of #BloggersBTS! Last week's theme was fashion, so you can check out my Back to School Fashion Essentials for ideas on what to wear this school year! This week's theme is organization, and as you all know I love my agendas! Unfortunately, my Lilly Pulitzer agenda post from 2013 is no longer up, but last year's Kate Spade Agenda organization post is still available, so you can read that one as well. Over the past 2-3 years, I've figured out what works for me as far as organizing my agenda, so I hope this helps you guys!

I'm definitely a fan of Kate Spade agendas over Lilly Pulitzer agendas, because the spiral on the inside prevents it from getting tangled in my other notebooks. Another agenda preference of mine, is the smaller agendas so I can take them any/everywhere I go without them taking up too much space. For this year's design I chose this bright kelly green with a super cute quote, so that even in the winter the bright colors will stand out and keep me out of the mid year slump!

The inside of this agenda has a cream lining with metallic gold polka dots, which are super cute and tie-in with the white and gold theme in my room. It also has a pocket in the front where I like to keep my schedule, notes for teachers, and my admit slips when I'm tardy or absent!

Instead of last years fun sayings, the cover of each month is a simple small black dot pattern. As much as I liked the fun sayings, they weren't that important to me, and I think this new pattern is a bit more mature!

As for the actual organization, I like to use the monthly overview to write down any major due dates and events, including when my blog posts are going up. I also like to write down when my web conferences are for my online classes, and any extracurricular events going on that I'm thinking about attending. I use the notes section on the left side to write down any due dates or notes that don't fit in the other boxes, like if a specific class has a lot due on a certain day!

For the weekly view, I use each of the eight spaces for a class, and write down the name of class with the work I need to get done that day. I use the extra line (I'm only taking 7 classes) to write down blog things that I need to get done, or things I need to do for clubs & extracurriculars!

I hope you all enjoyed this post, and it helped you choose the Kate Spade agenda (like I said, I love them) or just help you organize your agenda! Stay tuned for more exciting posts later this week, and don't forget to check out the other #BloggersBTS posts! xo, Lauren!

Back to School Fashion Essentials | #BloggersBTS

August 7, 2015
Back to School Essentials

Hello, and welcome back to my blog! Today begins my annual back to school series, except this year will be a little different. You may have noticed the #BloggersBTS in the title of this post; I'm so excited to announce that I am apart of the link up hosted by Cathleen from Classy Cathleen and Nicole from Empire Styles! This week's link up theme is fashion, so today I'm showing you six of my back to school fashion essentials! Also, I don't know about you, but I'm digging the blue, black, and gold color scheme!

For the most part (some days are a struggle), I dress up everyday for school. I have found that personally, the saying "dress well, test well" is true, meaning that whenever I'm dressed in a put together outfit as opposed to sweats or Nike shorts, I focus and perform better. That being said, sometimes it can be difficult to not get stuck in a rut wearing the same outfits every week. An easy solution, is to pair a bold statement necklace with a basic outfit such as a grey t-shirt and black skinny jeans. The necklace will create a super chic look, without the work of coordinating a new outfit!

Many people dread wearing jeans, they find them uncomfortable and restricting. I on the other hand, love the structure provided by jeans, especially when they fit well! If you haven't seen my Finding the Perfect Jeans post, then you should definitely check it out to read about my 'journey' to finding my perfect pair. American Eagle's jeans fit me perfectly, so I will definitely be picking some up in multiple washes to get ready for the school year!

For me, back to school footwear is a struggle, because as much as I love my summer wedges, they aren't practical for everyday at school. I'm also not a fan of flats, as they typically provide little to no foot support, and I feel as though I'm walking on the ground. Lately, I've been inspired by the sporty-chic look, and these shoes fit in perfectly with that style! I recently have purchased a pair of white high-top Converse, which I love, but this pair of Vans are a little less common for high-schoolers, so if you hate having the same things as everyone else, these will be perfect for you!

This is a bit of a splurge item, but I think that wearing a watch is super important. In the modern age of technology, teens either wear watches soley for the look (which is totally fine) or don't wear them at all, because they can check the time on their iPhones. In my opinion, watches are classic and should be worn not only for the style - don't get me wrong that's important- but also for the practicality!

Basic t-shirts are a crucial aspect of any/every wardrobe. They are super easy to style, and can look super refined when they are a good quality. It's important to get new tee's yearly in order to keep them looking neat, especially white ones! Making sure your tee fits properly (not too baggy or sheer) is also important, which means the t-shirts that your friends wear may not be the best option for you. It's good to try on a variety of different tee's when shopping, and pick the one that works best for you (and buy it in every color)!

Whether you're snapping selfies or texting in class (it's bad, but c'mon...we all do it) a new phone case can totally transform your style! For me, getting a new case at the beginning of the year feels like spring cleaning my closet, or starting a new agenda!

I hope you all enjoyed today's post; leave me a comment letting me know what your back to school essentials are! Don't forget to come back next week for a new #BloggersBTS post. Stay tuned, xo Lauren!

Sight Seeing Part 2 | London, England

August 4, 2015
As you may know, today - Monday- was our last full day in London. You may be thinking "Wow! Only 3 days in London, what a short trip?!" (I've been getting it a lot from friends), but our family prefers shorter vacations, it's a personal thing. Any who, today was by far our most busy day, so I'l stop with this into and get right into the post!

Once again, we woke up at 7:00 AM and ate breakfast downstairs at the hotel so we could be getting out at 10 AM. We started our day by taking the tube down to St. Paul's Cathedral. The cathedral was beautiful, and I enjoyed way much more than I anticipated. We climbed way too many 528 stairs up to the Golden Gallery, where we could see the entire city from 11 meters up (I would like to point out that I have a small fear of heights, so this was personally quite impressive). The stairs were SUCH a hassle, and extremely tiring, but the view was 100% worth it in the end. St. Paul's Cathedral also features a crypt, as well as a hall dedicated to the American soldiers who helped G.B. during WW2. The area features 3 stained glass panels with flags from all of the states, as well as a book with the names of all the soldiers who died dedicating their lives to help their allies. Seeing this part of the cathedral in person was breathtaking, and hard to take in a the book was filled with over 18,000 (don't quote me on that, I'm pretty sure that's what the guide said) names.
 Roy Lichtenstein's "Whaam"

Piet Mondrian's "Composition with Yellow Blue and Red"

After leaving St. Paul's Cathedral, we walked across the bridge to the Tate Modern museum. As you all know I'm a sucker for art museums, and everyone said that this was the #1 museum to see in London! We enjoyed quite a few works, such as the Roy Lichenstein piece (my 2nd favorite artist ever), a Piet Mondrian composition, a Warhol piece, and few others.

We stopped on our way back at a restaurant called Dion, where I had the most delicious burger ever. We originally stopped for a toilet break, and ordered some light dessert/snacks, but we quickly realized that we were all ready for lunch and ordered meals. Blood orange sorbet is a dessert I've never had before, and the one I shared with Olivia at Dion was one of the best sorbet's I've ever had - I've had way more than you probably think!

Due to room problems, we had to switch hotels from the W London to Le Meridien (where I am sitting writing this post, the internet is INCREDIBLE). After the Tate Museum, we (My Dad, Olivia and I) took the tube back to Piccadilly Circus and transferred rooms while Nigel and my mom headed to Hamley's Toy Store.  Nigel was extremely excited about the toy store, but mildly disappointed that it had many of the same things as FAO Schwarz from our NYC trip.

We reunited at the hotel for afternoon tea, an England experience my mom did not want to miss! As far as the tea, we had just eaten lunch so weren't as interested in the sweets, so I sipped on a delicious chamomile tea. I definitely recommend stopping for tea if you are in England, sitting down and having a conversation over tea midday is a daily activity that we need in America!

view from London Eye

Following tea was the London Eye, one of the major tourist attractions I had to experience before leaving London! The line was super long when we arrived, so we purchased the fast track tickets in order to hop straight onto the ferris wheel! The view of the city was stunning, and although the tickets were expensive, I'd say they were definitely worth it! We had an incredible view of Big Ben/the Elizabeth Tower from the London Eye, and were able to take some incredible photos!

Once the ride was over, it immediately started raining, so we ran for cover under a bridge, and ended up with the most unbelievable view of Big Ben! We took some cool photos in from of the tower while the rain stopped, and then walked across the bridge to get closer photos and get on the tube to Piccadilly Circus! Once we got there we split once again for some shopping, after quickly returning to the hotel and changing into warmer clothes (it got real chilly real fast). We did a bit of shopping in the area, but not much as many of the shops were closed/closing, then ate dinner at a restaurant called Prezzo. Prezzo is a pizza place with incredible service and delicious food. Everything was good from my flatbread Margherita pizza to the tiramisu I ate for dessert!

The last day in London was incredible, and the perfect way to complete the trip. We had SO much fun in London, and hopefully I will return again soon! Don't forget to check out days 1 & 2, and also Ruth's London Recap posts! I'll be back later this week with my first post from the #BloggersBTS link up, xo Lauren!
