Hello everyone, long time no see! I decided to take a break beginning the day after Christmas into 2015, and spend time with my family! On January 3rd I had the pleasure of sitting down with Shannon from Prep Avenue and asking her a few questions, voila!
1. Three staples every girl needs in her wardrobe?
"I would probably say a classic white button down, a navy cardigan (I'm on my second!), and a good pair of riding boots (I wear mine almost every day in the fall)."
2. Three of your favorite blogs?
"3 of my favorites...definitely College Prepster, Mimosa and Monroe, and Design Darling"
3.When did you start Prep Avenue? What was your inspiration?
"I started it my senior year [of high school] over Christmas break, that's when I first sat down and started writing. As for my inspiration, I guess I had just been reading them for so long. That year we went on a ski trip over Christmas break; I was sitting there one day in the ski lodge and I clicked the button and designed it. It took my mind off of school and the stresses of senior year, finding a college, etc. "
4. How do you maintain school, blogging, and other extracurriculars?
"It's definitely a challenge, I probably call my mom in tears every two weeks, because I get overwhelmed easily and I get stressed out easily and that's something that I'm working on right now. I try to write as many blog posts as I can when I'm home [on break] and I don't have anything going on, but it's hard because Christmas break and summer break are the only two breaks where I have absolutely no homework. I try to always put my school work first; I try to post four times a week but sometimes there'll be an absence, because I'll have a big paper due that day or something. I write as many as I can when I'm home on break and I try to schedule in time [to write posts]. I also try to be super involved on campus; I'm a tour guide so I have to give tours three times a week, and I'm in a sorority which has multiple commitments a week, and I'm on the student conduct board so there's definitely multiple meetings a week, and if you schedule in time it's definitely manageable."
5. You can wear one outfit for the rest of your...what is it?
"That's so hard...probably a shift dress, because they can be dressed up or dressed down based on the occasion. You can throw on a pair of flats with it to make it look casual, or put on heels with it to dress it up."
6. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
"Well I lived in Germany for three years when I was in middle school, and it was definitely a highlight of my life. I loved being able to travel, so I definitely think it would be somewhere in Europe just because I love how it easy it is to travel to different countries. At my house we could drive four hours and get to Paris, so we would go to Paris on the weekends and go skiing in the Alps, but one of my all time favorite towns we would go to almost every weekend in the winter to ski is called Garmisch in Germany. It's right on the Germany-Austria border, and I love it, it's gorgeous. The town is so quaint and I still have a lot of friends who live there, so probably Garmisch."
7. What is one quote that describes you?
"I love the quote 'fate loves the fearless'; I don't know if it actually describes me because I'm not really fearless but I think it's a good reminder. I want to have it framed in my room so I can look at it all the time. That's one of my favorites."
It was such a blast sitting down and talking with Shannon! She was amazing, so nice and easy to talk to. You should all follow her blog, Prep Avenue, it's definitely a favorite!
xoxo, Lauren
