Winter Formal 2017

January 30, 2017
As you're reading this I'm sitting in the ski resort typing this post on my iPhone because I got forgot my laptop! Yesterday, I was out on the slopes on the ski trip that I mentioned in my last post. I haven't really been feeling like skiing today and the snow is blowing everywhere, so be prepared for a book talk on the book I brought with me!
I've had quite a crazy weekend, as our school's Winter Formal was this past Saturday and since I'm a member of Student Government I played a big role and organizing the event. Luckily, it was very successful and lots of fun - I danced almost the entire night. Our theme was a classic Winter Wonderland, which ended up fitting perfectly this dress from MissGuided that I bought a few months ago! Unfortunately, there are only a few sizes left but MissGuided has a bunch of cute dresses on their site. I paired the dress with simple accessories, black Kendra Scott earrings and the same black heels I wore at Thanksgiving Dance. The dance was amazing and I got so many compliments on my dress. It's perfect for any winter event because it's classic and eye-catching while being understated.

Packing Tips: Weekend Ski Trip

January 23, 2017
Happy Monday! Today I'm sharing with you what I packing/how I pack for a weekend ski trip. My school's ski trip was originally planned for this past weekend, but was postponed at the last minute to next weekend due to weather conditions and being the planner that I am, I'm already packed!
Packing for weekend trips can be kind of difficult, you never want to over pack, especially when you're traveling with others, but you also don't want to under pack and be stuck without or be forced to borrow from someone else. My number one tip for packing for any trip is to make a list of what you'll need each day from the time you wake up until the time you go to bed.  This way nothing gets left behind that you'll need and nothing extra gets packed. Another tip is to pack the biggest/thickest things (coats, boots, pants) first, and the smaller/thinner things can fit into the spaces between these things. My last piece of advice is to pack the things that you'll need first on top, or if you need them immediately (gloves, goggles, camera) in an easily accessible zipper pocket. If I'm gone only for the weekend I won't take the time to unpack my luggage and hang things up, so I started packing whatever I'll need first (usually my PJs) on top so I don't have to rummage through my entire suitcase and take everything out, leaving my suitcase in disarray for the rest of the trip! Thanks for reading, make sure to follow me on Instagram (@misslaurenalston) and Twitter (@mslaurenalston) to see pictures from the ski trip next week. Until then, xoxo Lauren.

Day → Night

January 16, 2017

Happy Monday everyone! I've been enjoying my 3-day weekend to the fullest and trying to stay stress-free since it was one of the busiest weekends I had this year. Early Saturday morning I crossed off one of my bucket list items by attending a TEDx Conference. The topic was "change" and I got to hear from some amazing speakers, it was everything I hoped for. I bought this top from LuLu's to wear to TEDx specifically, and it ended up being too perfect to take off!

After TEDx, I picked up my sister and we did some homework and studying at a local coffee shop. I ordered my all-time favorite drink, a chai latte (with almond milk of course). Then it was time to get ready for a concert. Waka Flocka Flame was performing at our local venue, and even though I'm not a huge fan of his music it was very hype and all of my friends were going. Like I said, I'm in love with this top and I didn't want to change, so I used accessories to transform my look from day to night. I switched out my Kendra Scott earrings for a pair of silver studs and my watch for a gold wrap bracelet. I kept my black jeans but switched out my ankle booties for my gray Adidas sneakers, which unfortunately got ruined as my feet were trampled by other feet...if you have any tips for cleaning suede please let me know!

I had a great time at the Waka concert with my friends and my sister, and it was a great memory to start off 2017. I cannot believe that we're already 2 weeks in, halfway through January. In a couple of weeks, I'll be a second semester senior in high school which is kind of crazy to comprehend!

Have a good day, xoxo Lauren.

NECKLACE: Lightyears / SWEATER: Urban Outfitters (similar) / VEST: J.Crew Factory / JEANS: Revice / BOOTS: Hunter

We got about four inches of snow here in NC and I'm loving (almost) every minute of it! If you don't live in the south a few inches of school is no big deal, but where I live whenever it snows school gets canceled and the grocery store lines are out the door. I've been cooped up inside doing homework, reading books, and watching movies; but I did make sure to get outside to enjoy the fresh air and have a snowball fight with my brother. If you're looking for things to do while you're snowed in, look back to last year's post and while you're at it take a peek at last year's snow outfit!
I've had this vest for a year (maybe two) and somehow I always forget about it. Since it's gray I can wear it with anything and the contrast of the gray and gold makes the vest pop! The J.Crew herringbone vests are amazing because they're so detailed that it looks like a fabric when it's actually a print on vest-material. They're a great price and a piece that you can wear forever! I just checked, and they still have all the sizes available so it would be a great time to get one since they are normally sold-out!

Have a great day and bundle up if you live in a snowy area!

New Year's Eve 2016

January 1, 2017

Today is the first day of 2017 and I couldn't be more excited! 2017 is going to be a year of change for me, from graduating high school to turning 18 to starting my college, wherever that may be. 2016 was definitely a year to remember, the good and the bad, but I'm ready to turn the page and begin the next chapter of life. To ring in the new year, I went to First Night Raleigh with my sister and one of my best friends, Allie. It was the first time I'd ever been and I loved it! First Night Raleigh is a family event in downtown Raleigh with live music, food vendors, games, and rides. When we first arrived, Allie made us all wear tiaras to get in the NYE spirit, and I have to admit it was super fun. Then we rode the ferris wheel and the view of Raleigh was amazing. We walked and talked until about 11, when we entered the stage area to wait for the countdown to begin. I had a great time dancing and not caring who saw, plus it was super cold so I does doing anything I could to stay warm! When there was 1 minute until midnight, the acorn lowered and we all screamed the countdown. When the clock hit zero there were some great fireworks and we all enjoyed for a few minutes before heading back to the car. First Night Raleigh was a such a fun way to ring in the new year, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area! I hope you all had a wonderful NYE with friends and family. Stay tuned, xo Lauren.
