My Sweet 16

July 31, 2015
Many of you may have seen a few pictures from my Sweet 16 on Instagram (@misslaurenalston) or in my vlog! My party happened to occur during my "break from blogging", so I don't have that many pictures of the set-up to show you, but I do have pictures from dinner and all of my friends.

Essentially, I had 11 of my closest friends sleepover with me in a hotel suite at the Hampton Inn & Suites. It was easier to accommodate that many people in a hotel, than it would be at my house, and we were able to have full access to the pool as well as a nearby restaurant for dinner.  We all met in the lobby of the hotel at 5PM on my birthday (Friday, July 10) and at 5:30 we headed upstairs to change/freshen up and leave our bags.

We had a 6PM reservation at a nearby restaurant called Venable, so at 5:45 we walked over  there for dinner. The restaurant has a large variety of meals, so everyone could easily find something they enjoyed from the menu. I ordered the Udon noodles, and my meal was delicious! After we were all finished eating, they brought out my cake which we had dropped off earlier in the day.

My cake was something that was really important to me, and I planned out exactly how I wanted it at least 8 months in advance.  In the last few weeks leading up to my party I saw this cake on Pinterest that changed my mind completely! I fell in love with the water color/tie-dye effect, and knew it would be something unique to my party! The gold flecks are right up my alley, as gold is my all-time favorite color! Sugarland did a great job with my cake, and I could not be happier.

My friends all sang Happy Birthday to me as the cake was brought out, and others in the restaurant joined in. It was one of those moments in life that I will never forget!

After walking back to the hotel, we took lots of pictures outside (as us teenage girls do), and then headed upstairs to change into our swimsuits. We ended the evening with pool shenanigans, and then headed back up to our room to chill out and relax.  Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures from the room, but I will include some from the hotel's website. The room came with 2 queen beds, a pull-out couch, and a roll-away bed. We also brought two additional blow up mattresses for girls to sleep on, and between all of that we had more than enough space.

When we got back to the room, my mom had set up all of the "Lauren's Sweet 16" Tank Tops with ribbon and everyone's name on a card. We put those on and wore them around the room for the rest of the night! By around 9pm we had made our way to our respective sleeping locations, and then turned on the tv. Gone Girl was on so we watched that, and hung out for the rest of the night. We woke up at about 8:30 on Saturday morning, and when everyone was awake we went downstairs for the continental breakfast. Saturday morning was super relaxed as we ate breakfast, then went back up to our room and enjoyed each other's company while watching Shark Week. At 10:30 AM my birthday came to a close as everyone left, and my mom came over to help with the clean up. My birthday party was SO much fun, so thanks again to everyone (especially my parents) who helped me celebrate!

I designed my tank tops with Custom Ink, and they made it extremely easy. All I had to was enter some text, add a picture and make the order! I highly recommend Custom Ink if you need any kind of custom made tee shirt.

Bringing Abercrombie Back

July 29, 2015
I know, I know, you may be shocked and surprised by the title of this post, but yes, this lace-y blue number is from Abercrombie & Fitch! I'm not sure about you, but where I live Abercrombie is sooo 7th grade; I don't know a single person at my school who still wears it.

A few weeks ago, I was at the mall shopping, mostly for dresses and rompers, as they are easy to throw on and go while still looking put together.  I was drawn into Abercrombie by a cozy-looking grey sweater - which I had to convince myself not to buy in the middle of June - and from their explored the store a bit more. My eye caught this blue romper, which I never thought would fit me (aside from their t-shirts, A&F never fit me well), but my mother convinced me to try on - mother's really do have the best advice.

It fit like a glove, and quickly became one of my summer essentials. The lace makes the romper a bit dressy, so I love wearing it with wedges, like these from Steve Madden (similar). Even with the lace, the romper is a bit simple, which allows me to add a bunch of accessories. A no-brainer is my monogram necklace (I wear it almost daily) and my Kate Spade watch. Recently, I've been obsessed with these Lily and Laura bracelets, and earrings from Altar'd State (similar) as well.  The ring is such a simple touch, and too cheap not to get, from American Eagle (I like this one too).

(a random, fun picture that I liked too much to leave out!)
