Book Talk: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

July 28, 2014

For my first lifestyle post I want to introduce a new "Book Talk" series. I've always loved reading, and this is a fun way for me to share some of my favorite reads with you all! Also, you are welcome to send me any book recommendations in the comments and I'll try to read them. My latest favorite read is Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. (don't worry, no spoilers)!

Gone Girl is a page-turner. The basic plot: Amy and Nick Dunne are a married couple that live in Carthage, Missouri. On their 5th wedding anniversary, Amy goes missing, and the home shows signs of a struggle.

The character's rotate narrating chapters. Nick's point view are his thoughts and actions, while Amy's point of view is a series of diary entries from the past year to the present. As the story unravels the form of the book is very helpful in keeping the reader informed. The book is also written in a way that doesn't give too much information, just enough to keep you sane and wondering whether or not Nick is innocent.

About halfway through the book there is a major plot twist. BAM! Mind=blown.

As the rest of the story is told you slowly start to realize what everything you read in the beginning means, and what's really going on. The best part of all is the ending is completely unexpected, it left my jaw hanging open, literally.

Even better, the movie adaptation is set to come out in theaters this fall, starring Ben Affleck as Nick! I cannot wait!

I recommend this book to any, and everyone who even glances at it in the store.

Have you read any good books lately? What are your favorites?
