A few days ago I realized that I've read so many books this month. I don't feel strongly enough about any of them to do a full book talk, so instead, I'm doing a quick roundup/recap!
Difficult Women by Roxane Gay
I started May by finishing the last few stories of Difficult Women. In April, I did a detailed post on 3 of my favorite short stories in the book so make sure you go read that! Since then, I enjoyed Break All the Way Down, The Sacrifice of Darkness, and Noble Things.
The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin
I rarely read fantasy books, however, I enjoyed The Immortalists more than I thought I would. A quick summary: in the late 1960s four siblings visit a psychic who predicts the day they will die. Fast forward 10-15 years, they're all living their separate lives haunted by their looming death dates. I like that the book is split into quarters, each one told by one of the siblings and starting with the first to die and ending with the last to die. I haven't actually finished the last quarter, but as soon as I get my hands on it I will.
When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger
Like everyone else, I love The Devil Wears Prada. Who doesn't when it features a meek Anne Hathaway and an evil Meryl Streep? I had the opportunity to read Lauren Weisberger's continuation of the story with an equally witty title, and I finished it in a day. The story follows Emily Charlton as and her life in suburban Greenwich, but little has changed as she's busying herself solving other people's problems. The book comes out on June 5th and which is perfect for a light, summer beach read!
I Was Told There'd Be Cake by Sloane Crosley
I first heard about this book on #Girlboss radio and added it to my TBR. It's taken me two years to read and I have to say I'm slightly disappointed. My expectations were high and the book wasn't what I expected. The stories were interesting and funny, but nothing life-changing.
Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes
Year of Yes is another book that I added to my TBR back in May of 2016. Because I've heard so many great things and I've been looking forward to reading it for so long, I was slightly disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a huge fan of Shondaland and I did gain a lot of valuable information from reading, it's just that I was expecting more. It's not long at all, so I do think that it's worth a read if you have any interest in Shonda Rhimes or her career. Plus, hearing about how she writes Grey's Anatomy and Scandal, as well as her real-life friendships with Ellen, Sandra, and Kerry, were fun as a fan of the show!
Hole in My Life by Jack Gantos
I'm starting this book today all I can say is that the cover is yellow and has 8 mugshots on it. I don't remember who recommended it or how I discovered it, but it's been on my TBR for a year and a half so I feel like I have to give it a shot. If it's any good, I'll do a book talk!
