Go Greek

Laiik authentic traditional greek sandals, Ria in midnight blue navy and white

"Go Greek" is all I've been hearing and seeing around campus this week. Even though Georgetown isn't big on sororities and fraternities; the few groups that exist on campus are encouraging everyone they can to rush! But today, I'm not talking about Greek life in the Panhellenic sense, I'm talking about sandals.

Laiik is a new fashion start-up that's reclaiming the Greek sandal two feet at a time! In the past three weeks, I've become obsessed with them not only because the Ria in Midnight Blue is basically me in a shoe, but I'm also interning with them this semester!

My first way to style my Laiik sandals is they I did in my go-to outfit transitioning from fall to winter blog post. They're perfect for the in-between-seasons weather because they're extremely sturdy for walking around and getting things done and they cover a good portion of my feet while letting my toes enjoy the final remnants of warm weather. This color combo reminds me of summer and compliments my everyday outfit of jeans and a white tee! I've been paying these shoes a lot of compliments, but my final piece of praise is the simple yet unique design. I don't think I've ever worn a shoe in my entire life where my big toe was exposed...and I kind of love it! All of the shoes are extremely simple with an innovative twist that makes them recognizable Laiik sandals!

It wouldn't be a Miss Lauren Alston post if I didn't talk about sustainability. As a vegan, it is hard for me to promote a leather good. However, I feel much better knowing that all of Laiik's materials are ethically sourced and the sandals are vegetable-tanned using non-toxic materials to have the lowest possible impact on the environment.

Laiik's first-ever collection of Greek sandals was released this past summer, and you honestly cannot go wrong with any of the styles or colors! Aside from the ones I'm wearing, my favorites are the Kiki in brick and soon-to-be-released white. If you get a pair (which you 100% should) let me know how you like them! And make sure you #WearThemWell!
