Her Conference 2017

July 25, 2017
Her Conference sponsored by KIND

Hi everyone! If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you probably know that I was in NYC this past weekend for Her Conference! For months, I've been super excited for this event not only because of the amazing keynote speakers (Troian Bellisario and Aja Naomi King, I mean come on) but also because all of the panels were super interesting to me! I attended panels on marketing, PR, entrepreneurship, and book publishing; each one leaving me so inspired and with so many ideas!

Book Talk: Unfiltered by Lily Collins

July 22, 2017
Lily Collins' debut novel Unfiltered

I have been such a huge Lily Collins fan since I first saw her in The Blind Side about 8 years ago! That's kind of crazy to think that I've been a fan of her for almost half of my life! Stuck in Love is one of my favorite movies and I cry every time I see Love, Rosie. I wanted to read the book sooner rather than later, because in her new Netflix film To the Bone her character is struggling with an eating disorder which is something that Lily Collins has had experience with. It was important to me to read her story and gain some perspective before watching the movie, and conveniently one of my best friends, Allie, got me the book for my birthday (she knows me so well)!

Get Fit

July 19, 2017

Hi everyone! I've been super MIA from social media the past few days because I've been super busy with life, but I'm gearing up to go to NYC this weekend for Her Conference and I cannot wait! If any of you are going to be there let me know, I would love to meet up!

Now into the post, I don't want this to be a long post about "my fitness journey" because to be honest, I'm not that fit. I have, though, been working out 3-4 times a week this summer so I wanted to share my favorites work outs with you!

My all-time favorite fitness activity is playing tennis! I went to tennis camp for a few years, where I met Ruth, but to be honest I don't get to play that much. This summer my brother has become a tennis player so I play him occasionally, but this one is rough because I don't always have a partner.

Most often, I take boxing classes. My sister and I have been taking Muay Thai classes for a while now, she's been going for almost a year and I've been going for a bit over six months! I love boxing because not only is it a great work out but I'm also learning self-defense in case I need to pull a Gigi Hadid on a stranger in the street (she kicks butt). At the gym we go to, the classes are an hour and are offered 5 days a week! I've been the most consistent with this as a work out routine and I always love how I feel after a class!

Those are my two go-to workouts! I really want to try an Orangetheory Fitness class and also a spin class because those are two things that are in my area and available to me that I have never tried! Leave a comment letting me know what your favorite fitness activity is! Stay tuned, xo Lauren.

Welcome back everyone! I want to start off by saying that the inspiration for today's post comes from my girl Shannon over at Prep Avenue! In one of her recent posts, she shared some pictures from a sunflower field in Raleigh and she was kind enough to share the address when I asked!

On to the point of this post, I've had a necklace from Stargaze Jewelry pinned on my Pinterest forever, and when I received some birthday money I was clicking through my pins deciding what to buy. That day they happened to be having a buy one get one 50% off sale so I had to place an order! My sister and I each picked out two items, but everything is super inexpensive and cute that I pinned so many more things to my page! I'd like to get 20% off your order, use the code 'MISSLAUREN20' at checkout! Head over to the website, check out the pieces, and let me know in the comments which are your favorites!

Yesterday was my 18 birthday! I had originally planned to post on my Instagram story and have a blog post up with some of the life lessons I've gained, but I was way too busy enjoying the day with my friends and I realized that I had hardly any advice. Instead, I wanted to share my dinner outfit with you and where we went!

How to Get Into Your Dream School

July 7, 2017

Hi everyone! As I'm registering for classes and packing my things into boxes, I cannot help but think about how blessed I am to be preparing to attend my dream school! While a large part of the college application process is about luck, there are also some things you can do to improve your chances of getting into your first choice school! In case you found this post randomly and don't follow my blog (which you definitely should) I'm going to be a first-year at Georgetown University this fall! Georgetown is quite a tough school to get into and I honestly feel so fortunate to have this opportunity!

Happy 4th of July to all of my American friends! For me, the 4th of July has never been my favorite holiday because I'm always out of town at our family reunion and I never get to enjoy fireworks or festivities with my friends. Last year one of my friends had a cookout and I had a great time, but this year all of my friends are out of town this week (just my luck)! I think the plan for today is to finally see Cars 3 and have fun with my immediate family and hopefully make a fun dessert (I'm a sucker for those American flag pies)!

On to the point of this post, when I was a kid my mom used to but me in those Faded Glory overalls from Old Navy (typical) so I've grown up wearing patriotic colors on the 4th. This year I was looking in my closet and when I realized I had so many denim pieces I wondered what's more American than denim? I'm featuring my favorite denim (looking pieces) for three different occasions! Plus, if you have a denim tank top (like this one I've been eyeing from Anthropologie) I think it would go really well with white skinny jeans!

The first look is the dressiest! I think it would be super cute if you're spending your day on a boat or going to a larger scale "event" where there may be some people you don't know. I also think it's fun if you don't have any serious plans but you may be out and about!

The second look is the easiest to move in! I love it for family cookouts where you may be playing with younger kids, or even going to the pool with friends. It's the easiest to wear with a swim suit and allows for the most mobility!

The third look is probably the one that I'll be wearing and definitely the most casual! It's great if you plan to be inside baking or going out to see the fireworks in the afternoon. All of these outfits are super easy to customize and add some red too if you want something more festive! If you recreate any of them make sure to take pictures and tag me on instagram (@misslaurenalston)!

Sun Days feat. Warby Parker

July 2, 2017

Welcome back everyone! I hope you're enjoying the first Sunday of July because I know I am, the temperature in Chapel Hill is 90 degrees! Whenever it's this warm, I hate spending the day inside. I love going to get (vegan) ice cream, sitting outside with a book, or even just riding around town with the windows down (that was such a great rhyme). When it's bright outside, sunglasses are a necessity and my go-to brand is Warby Parker!

Right now, I love the Laurel style which I originally got because I love that name (yes, I'm that girl). Warby Parker sunglasses have an amazing fit and durability that cannot be beat! Plus, their Home Try-On program allows you to choose up to 5 pairs of sunnies to try on at home for free before shipping them back and/or deciding which one's to purchase. It's an amazing idea and so helpful as a customer!

Warby Parker's newest collection came out a few weeks ago and it's the Mixed Materials Collection. I'm absolutely obsessed with the new style and I think it's great for summer! The prominent top half combined with the more subtle exposed frame on the bottom half create a pair of sunnies with a distinct personality. Inspired by the 50's, these shades can add some flair to your basic white tee and skinny jeans or compliment your favorite sundress or romper!

Thanks for reading! Make sure you check out Warby Parker and leave a comment letting me know which style is your favorite. Stay tuned, xo Lauren.
