National Zoo and Georgetown Cupcakes | Washington D.C.

April 01, 2015

Yesterday was our last day in D.C., but what a day it was! D.C. has treated us well so far, and yesterday was no different.
We woke up early and made our way back to Old Ebbitt Grill (yes, I forgot a photo of my food). I wasn't super hungry, so I ordered the Housemade Granola. It was delicious, refreshing and just what I needed to start my day. I said it yesterday and I'll say it again, if you're ever in D.C. for breakfast, Old Ebbitt Grill is the place to eat.

Shortly after breakfast, we took the metro for the first time this trip, and went to the National Zoo! The metro wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, relatively clean and a good experience.  From the Cleveland Park stop we walked a few blocks to the zoo. It was my brother's first time at the zoo, which made the experience all the more enjoyable for my entire family. We saw all kinds of animals, including the clouded leopard, giant panda, and elephants. I have to say my favorite part was seeing the lions and lioness; they looked so calm and peaceful despite the children screaming at them!

Our next stop was back to Georgetown Cupcakes with the whole family. The line was about the same as last night, 15-20 minutes until we were able to get our cupcakes.  This time I opted for red velvet and peanut butter fudge.  After getting our cupcakes we walked about half a mile up to The Tombs, per CollegePrepster's recommendation.  The food was great, I ordered the Grilled Salmon Waldorf Salad, which was amazing. For dessert we each ate one of our cupcakes, I had my red velvet and a bite of my brother's cookies and cream. They were so good, somehow even better than last night!

When lunch ended we headed back to our hotel to get our bags and head back home.  The traffic was crazy, so it took us forever to get out of the city. At about 7:30 we stopped for dinner at Carrabba's Italian Grill. I ordered the Mezzaluna, which was incredible, just what I needed before getting back into the car for 3 hours. We also ate the last of our cupcakes, mine being the Peanut Butter Fudge. This was a close second to my salted caramel  from the day before, but still so good!

Today's outfit was super casual, since we were going to be in the car for the majority of the day, so I  didn't get a photo.
